Deacon Victor Parrott

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NRSV)

So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see everything has become new!

Choose Life

By the grace of God, I was blessed to witness the birth of three of my children. They now range in age from twenty years to twenty-seven years. However, I still remember the feeling of awe that I experienced every time each of them entered the world. There in the delivery room, I was overwhelmed with the knowledge that God is real. I thought, “surely there is a God!” How else can the miracle of fetal development and then birth be explained? I don’t remember what the birth experience was like for me as I was being born, in fact, I doubt that anyone can recall their birth.

However, I do remember the excitement and euphoria of being born again. Once more, as in the delivery room, I was awestruck. What a blessed day that was! Unlike natural childbirth, which cannot be chosen, spiritual birth is a choice. And I chose life.

Isn’t it exciting to think that on this very day you can choose to be born again? You can choose to discard things of the past as if they were afterbirth. You can decide to be made new. Trade in what has been for what can be. Choose life. You won’t be disappointed.

Prayer

Almighty God, thank you for the opportunity to be reborn as a new creation. In the name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

Thought for the day

Out with the old and in with the new.

Top of the Day Deacon, it is an "overwhelming beautiful experience" to be born again in Christ name. Accept now that you have prayed so much sincerely and acheived that, how do you maintain it. For me being born again and in Christ name is the "get on your mark ,get ready, Go!" Now is'nt it easy to lose that mark, and when you do, is it much harder to get it back. Here I was born again and (not physically going to our Church fellowshipping) accept in a maximun security prison! Hell all day long, when I returned to those streets, I was good! I came here because our pastor was preaching teaching the real deal and in "clear language". I recall walking with a member outside that church one day, and thereby a homeless person crossing our path. So with sudden tearing in my eyes, I gave that person something that would help them out. This fellow member told me "It's real hard to walk that walk of Jesus Christ", as if I was being scorned. This member was/is a deacon. So I truely thought about it, and all the tears I'm constantly having , everytime I end up in public observing a homeless person and sharing with them whatever I had in my pocket. So I concluded; yeah that person is right! I'm tired of crying and it seems i'll always be broke and I'm not trying to be Jesus Christ so I better cool it! That decision that day appeared to have grossly cost me a lot of work in Christ. So being born again is only a start, can you avoid slipping and losing what God has given you, be it because of your own ignorance, and/or trusting in someone that appears to be more acknowledgeable powerful in the lord then you? Just to say, it's easyer to solidly maintain that greatness in the lord then to allow yourself to be robbed of your joy. Yep! it's easy to mess up but it"s hard to recoup. God Bless You
