Micah 6:8

8He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? (KJV)

8But he's already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It's quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don't take yourself too seriously — take God seriously. (MSG)

Love Mercy

Over a year ago a niece of mine, living in Florida, was brutally murdered by her boyfriend. As the wheels of justice turned you can imagine the pain, grief, mental stresses, etc., of her immediate family, mom and dad, brothers and sister. There was an enormous amount of evidence, and the killer was quickly found guilty,

A couple of weeks ago there was a sentencing hearing and my surviving niece, whom I love dearly, posted a FB status asking for "love and support to gain Justice." the "Justice" she was seeking was a death penalty.

Even with all the evidence leading to this conviction, even with the fact of it being my relative murdered, I cannot support a death penalty. God calls us to love mercy, not just when it is convenient or safe, but when it is difficult, when you can't see through the tears, when the pain of loss constricts your breathing . . .

Prayer

My Father, my God, teach me to love as You love. Make mercy a part of my being. Help me to see the world through other's eyes. Have mercy on me. Amen.

Thought for the day

Pay attention to the situations in your day that call out to you for mercy.

well praise God;but me and my family is not so fortunate. Donald Young my brother, your choir director/school teacher was murdered. His adult life was consumed with teaching, rd and 4th graders in Chicago Public School; bringing new members into this house of God, not to mention that mighty choir. The person or persons who killed Donald, I wholeheartedly believe is well educated in the handling of weapons; knew Donald Young (excluding the choirmembers that may have been vindictively indicated).I strongly believe the killer is in law enforcement and is affilated with our church or that school. Moreover I believe Donald knew it was going to happen beyond a shadow of any doubt. Those who honestly love Donald has had and/or have the power to bring that killer to justice. It is serious ego and lots of that is preventing the truth from being exposed. It is this experience that has made it clear to me what Unconditional Love is and precisely why we all should practice it. May God Bless us all as we strive to do what God would want us to do.
